Obituary

Lori Anthony was born in Niagara Falls, New York on February 11, 1970, and led a life guided by compassion, courage, and quiet strength. She grew up between Lewiston, Niagara Falls, and Los Angeles—places that shaped her open heart and deep understanding of humanity.

Answering a sacred calling to heal, Lori graduated from Nursing School at Santa Monica College. She devoted more than 30 years of her life to nursing, specializing as an infectious disease nurse at a time when HIV was deeply misunderstood and feared. Lori stepped forward without hesitation. When many were afraid, she chose love. When others kept distance, she offered presence, seeing not illness, but souls deserving of respect and safety. She cared for her patients with unwavering compassion, dignity, and tenderness.

Beyond patient care, Lori served as a nurse educator, generously passing on her knowledge and profound compassion to fellow nurses and medical professionals. Her influence extended far beyond her own hands, living on through those she taught and inspired. In recognition of her extraordinary dedication and service, Lori, alongside her best friend Mary Goodspeed, received the Distinguished Nursing Excellence Award at Erie County Medical Center in 2011—an honor reflecting her clinical excellence, and person-centered approach to healing.

Lori was known for her gentle approach, appetite for adventure, great sense of humor, deep love for those close to her and creativity with school projects. Her involvement with her children's education and personal growth inspired both Jack and Jordan to pursue advanced degrees in Law and Nursing, respectively. An unparalleled mother and spouse, Lori is at the center of many amazing memories and she will be remembered fondly and very often.

Lori is survived by her beloved children, Jordan (Mohammed Imam) Anthony and Jack (Jay Browning) Anthony; her wife, Christina Mihalitsas; her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Norman Barry; her nephews, Stephen (Danielle) DePalma and Edward Barry; her great-nephew and great-niece, Stephen and Pamina DePalma; her in-law parents, Kosmos and Michele Mihalitsas; her in-law siblings, Amanda (Christopher) Nelson, and her niece, Sawyer Nelson; and her former husband, John Anthony. She is also lovingly remembered by many cousins and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing her. Lori was predeceased by her parents, Fran and John Berds, whom she now joins in eternal peace.

Lori's legacy lives on in the kindness and love she offered to every person she met. Her gift of making people feel safe and cared for is what made her such a beloved mother, spouse, nurse, sister, daughter and friend. Through her life of service, love, and mercy, Lori reminded us all what it truly means to be human. Her light continues. Her love endures. Her spirit remains forever woven into the hearts of those she touched. She will be dearly missed and unendingly celebrated.
