Obituary

Louis 'Coach' Marcantonio, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY joined his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Jane, in Heaven on February 9, 2017, passing away at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born April 6, 1930, he was the son of Frank and Maria Pasqualina (Pullo) Marcantonio. On June 29, 1957, he married Mary Jane Malvestuto at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. Mary Jane predeceased him on December 7, 2008.

Lou's life was full of adventure. From his early days as a paper boy, to pin boy at local bowling alleys; from caddying at the Country Club to serving Ice Cream at Belmer's. After a short time at National Carbon, he enrolled in college at Brockport State, and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Teaching in 1952. Lou began working for the Niagara Falls Board of Education in 1952, and in 1991, after 39 years of teaching, during which time he taught thousands of children at six different Niagara Falls schools, he retired.

Lou was an avid bowler and was a member of The Interstate Teacher's Association from 1966 to present, serving as Executive Secretary from 1968 to present and President of the Board of Directors in 1997-1998. He held numerous roles in various other leagues. When he was younger, Lou was active with the Cub Scouts, including coaching baseball. He also participated In the TYRO and Moose Football Leagues. He enjoyed running and was a very active athlete, having run in the Boston Marathon twice.

Lou was head bowling coach for Niagara Falls High School boys and girls teams from 1978 to 2004. During his tenure as coach, he was the director of the Festival of Lights Tournament. He was inducted to the Niagara Falls Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 1982 and was named Coach of The Year by the Association in 1990. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus from 1953 to the present, where he served as secretary for many years. In addition, he served as Secretary of the St. Joseph's ushers from 1955 to the present, and, as president in 2003.

Lou is survived by four sons, Thomas A. Marcantonio, Frank C. (Missy) Marcantonio, Joseph M. (Francene) Marcantonio, and Louis J. Marcantonio, twelve grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his wife, Mr. Marcantonio was predeceased by one brother, Eugene (Betty) Marcantonio of Chicago. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to a true friend of Lou's, Rick Baldwin.

Visitation will be on Monday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, February 14th at 10 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston, NY at the convenience of the family.
