Louis F. Masic,Sr. 85 of Sanborn, NY passed away on Tuesday May 8, 2012. Born in Tonawanda, NY he was the son of the late John and Anna (Tomasic) Masic. He is survived by his wife Eleanor A. (Justiana) Masic whom he married on June 21, 2004.
Lou had enlisted in the US Marine Corps at the young age of 15 by saying he was older as many men had done during that era. He went overseas participating in action against the enemy at Bougainville in 1943, Guam in 1944 and Iwo Jima in 1945 as a Corporal with the 3rd Marine Division 3rd Regiment. Iwo Jima was 8 square miles of volcanic rock entrenched with Japanese Troops well aware of American Troops approaching. Shortly after landing on Iwo Jima Mr. Masic's acting Lieutenant was injured in action and He was assigned the 21st regiment and hadn't yet reached his 18th birthday. Lou was honorably discharged on December 10, 1945. An unforgettable US Marine quote reads "You cannot exaggerate about the Marines. They are convinced to the point of arrogance, that they are the most ferocious fighters on earth---and the amusing thing about it is they are".
After his return from the service Lou worked in the family business and later became the owner of Masic's Grill on 13th Street in Niagara Falls, NY . in 1956 he then started a long career with the Niagara Falls, NY Police Department serving his city as a Patrolman and was the first officer to have a K-9 dog on the Police Force later retiring in 1980. Mr. Masic went on to work with the Occidental Chemical Corporation for twenty one years retiring in 2001.
Lou was a member ot the VFW Post 7487 in Lewiston, NY and the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation. Most of all Lou will be remembered for his strong work ethic along with loving to spend time with his wife and family.
Mr. Masic is survived by his wife Eleanor, his children Louis F. (Judy) Masic Jr. of Columbus, GA. Joann Gualtierri of Hamilton, Ont., John R. (Gail) Masic of Lewiston, NY, Frank R. (Fran) Masic of Ransomville, NY, Marlene (Bill) Nichelson and Catherine Masic (Tim) Rickard both of Niagara Falls,NY. he was the beloved brother-in-law of Celia and John Woodard of FL. Survivors also include several grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by several brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday May 12th at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church 4671 Townline Road, Ransomville, NY with Rev. Joseph Badding Officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors.
