Louis Reele, 96, of Bradenton, FL and formerly of Niagara Falls, NY entered into rest on Saturday May 29, 2010. Louis was born in Lewiston, NY and was the son of the late Joseph and Rosalia (Panepinto) Reele, and loving husband of Eleanor (Tuttle) Gorzka, Comerford, Reele. Louis' beloved wife of 45 years, Josephine (Cicero) Reele, predeceased him in 1984.
Louis attended the Red Brick School in Lewiston, NY and was a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business Institute. During World War II he worked at the former Olbury Chemical in Niagara Falls, NY, before beginning his career at Scrufari Construction Company in Niagara Falls, where he worked for over 30 years as a labor foreman until his retirement in 1976. Louis was a member of Laborers Local 91, and was instrumental in the completion of many major and minor construction projects in the Niagara Falls area, including the completion of the Schoellkopf Geological Museum, the closing of the old hydraulic canal, and the movement of the old water intake archway to Goat Island.
He was a dedicated and caring family man who was fun-loving and appreciated the value of hard work. Louie's hobbies included: gardening and growing flowers, constructing and remodeling the homes of his family, and delegating nicknames to his loved ones. He was also a former member of the former Town of Niagara #1 Volunteer Fire Company.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his children: Joseph (Jan) Reele of Youngstown, NY, Louis P. (Bonnie) Reele of Brandon, FL, Rosalie (Clayton) Wakefield of Bradenton, FL; 12 grandchildren, including the late Deputy Michael S. Reele, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. Also surviving are his three stepchildren Matthew (Phyllis) Gorzka of Niagara Falls, NY, Nancy (Jim) Brown of Houston, TX and Stuart (Debbie) Comerford of Youngstown, NY; 9 step grandchildren, 11 step-great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Louis was predeceased by his brother Peter (late Mary) Reele; his sisters Lillian (late Frank) Musso, Lena (late Peter) Mansu, Gertrude (late Anthony) Cicero (late Joseph) Mattuccilli and Josephine (late Jose) Casal.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to his daughter Rosalie and son-in-law Clayton Wakefield, for lovingly and tirelessly caring for Louis for many years in Bradenton, FL.
Visitation will be on Thursday 3 – 8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin Friday June 4th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
