Mae A. (Gruppo) Trapasso, 75, of Lewiston, NY died on Friday March 19, 2010 at her residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Pasqualina (Bianco) Gruppo.
Affectionately known as Philomena to her family and friends, Mae was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1952. On May 17, 1958 she married Louis F. Trapasso at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Trapasso predeceased her on July 13, 1990. Mae worked at the former Strauss Company and Metropolitan Life Insurance, both in Niagara Falls. She also worked with her husband at the family business, Pine Electric Service in Niagara Falls, NY. Mae also worked for twenty years as secretary to the administrator at the former St. Mary's Manor on 6th Street in Niagara Falls until the late 1990's. Mae was an honorary member of the Secular Franciscan order as well as being a member of the Militia Immaculata and the Anime Sante Del Purgatorio Society of St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls. She was an ardent advocate of the Pro Life Movement and a supporter of the EWTN Network.
Mrs. Trapasso is survived by one daughter Anne Marie Trapasso of Lewiston, NY; one sister Nancy (late Anthony) Travis of Niagara Falls, NY; one brother Neil M. (Mary) Gruppo of Lewiston, NY; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special close friends that were regarded as family. She was predeceased by five sisters Constance "Connie" (John of Lewiston, NY) Barber, Josephine "Jay" (late Roche "Rocco") Caprio, Dolores "Dee" (late Joseph) Brigante, Bessie (late Peter) Nicosia, Marion (late Richard) Buscemi, one brother Daniel (late Lillian) Gruppo and seven siblings who died in infancy.
Friends may call on Sunday from 2 – 7 p.m. at the M. J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday March 22nd at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Flowers are graciously declined. If desired, Mass offerings may be made in Mae's memory.
