Margaret Nichols, 90, of Lewiston, NY, passed away peacefully at O.L.P Nursing Care Residence on March 31, 2020.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Mary Ellen (Hayes) Buckley.

Margaret attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1949. On May 8, 1954 she married James Nichols at the former Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Nichols predeceased her in 1987.

Margaret was employed at Niagara University in the office of Continuing Education for over 20 years prior to retiring and moving to Lewiston. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Peter's Church, and a longtime, former member of Sacred Heart Church.

Those whose lives she touched will always treasure her laughter, dignity, and grace.  Margaret was very proud of the civic activities accomplished by her children, including public service in the United States Navy, the City of Boston, and the United States Peace Corps. Margaret enjoyed spending days making craft projects with her sister Patricia and their daughters.  She was devoted to her family and often said that her greatest accomplishment was to ensure that her children attend and graduate from college.  Margaret even supported her husband Jim's goal of returning to school and earning his bachelor's degree - graduating from Niagara University in the same graduating class as one of their children. More important to Margaret was to watch her grandchildren graduate from college, most with advanced degrees.

Mrs. Nichols is survived by her children, James (Marie) Nichols, Kevin (Pamela) Nichols, Joseph (Kathleen) Nichols, Mary Ellen (Waqar) Nichols and Daniel (Bupe) Nichols; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; two siblings, Rita Flahive and Patricia (late Lawrence) Edwards; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the United States and Ireland. She was predeceased by siblings, Mary Louise (late Donal) Gallagher, James Buckley, Daniel (late Patricia) Buckley, Thomas (late Betty) Buckley and late John Buckley.

Due to recent circumstances, funeral services with interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery will be held privately for the family. A Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara University Alumni Chapel, 5795 Lewiston Rd, 6 Vincentian Dr, Lewiston, NY 14109 .
