Obituary

Marguerite H. (Gerg) Callen, 100, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Saturday February 18, 2012 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Ridgeway, PA she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Hattie (Loeffler) Gerg.

Marguerite graduated from St. Mary's High School in Pennsylvania and came to Niagara Falls, NY at the age of 19 where she has lived until the present time. On October 14, 1933 she married James Callen in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Callen predeceased her in 1987 after fifty four years of marriage. Marguerite worked at the former Kimberly Clark Co. and later on the former DeLaney's and Thorne Drug Store in Niagara Falls. She also served as a Grey Lady volunteer at the old St. Mary's Hospital located on 6th Street in Niagara Falls.

Marguerite was a longtime member of the former Our Lady of the Rosary Church, and current member of St. Vincent De Paul Parish, Prince of Peace Church. She was also a member of the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church Seniors at the John Duke Senior Center. Marguerite had a love for playing Bingo and shopping. She was also an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, and
particularly enjoyed watching golfer Tiger Woods on television.

Mrs. Callen is survived by one son, Thomas R. (Bernadette) Callen of Niagara Falls, NY; three grandchildren, James Callen of Hamburg, NY; Margaret Mokhiber and Marie (Michael) Maio both of Lewiston, NY; nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Charles (late Mildred) Gerg, Catherine (late Alexander) Harvey, Mabel (late Edward) Horn, Wilfred (late Margaret) Gerg, Melvin (late Jenny) Gerg, James (late Ruby) Gerg and Eileen (late Chester) Godzisz.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday February 23rd at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Parish, 1040 Cayuga Drive, Niagara Falls NY 14304 or to a charity of one's choice.
