Maria Giacometti, 95, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on September 10, 2025, at Northgate Manor. Born in Castello di Godego, Italy, she was the cherished daughter of the late Placido and Amelia (Goegan) Stocco.
In 1949, Maria immigrated to Canada, settling in Port Colborne, Ontario, where she married the love of her life, Mario Giacometti. Together, they built a beautiful life and began raising their son, Richard Giacometti.
In the 1960s, Maria and her family moved to Niagara Falls, NY, where she worked as a seamstress at the former Wellsley's in Williamsville, NY for many years.
Maria had a zest for life that was evident in her daily exercise and love for shopping. She also always enjoyed a sweet treat and a glass of wine. Above all, she treasured time spent with her family, especially her four beloved grandchildren, who brought her endless joy.
In addition to her parents, Maria was predeceased by her husband, Mario Giacometti and their cherished son, Msgt. Richard P. (Sharon) Giacometti; her sisters, Rina Tonello and Ada Biscaro, as well as her brothers-in-law Fortunato Biscaro and Ferruccio Dona and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anna and Vittorio Giacometti.
Maria is survived by her grandchildren, Joseph Giacometti, Adam (Gabriella) Giacometti, Amy Giacometti and Christine (Jason) Chisholm; her great-grandchildren, Jason, Adrianna, Salvatore, Francesca and Jackson, one sister, Clara (Stocco) Dona, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 17 from 10 – 11:30 AM at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will begin at 11:30 AM, followed by Maria's Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon in St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY.
