Obituary

Marie F. (Candella) Johnson, 77 of the Town of Niagara, NY died on Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Cora (Zoda) Candella.

Marie attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1950. On July 3, 1954 she married Kenneth F. Johnson at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY. When her children were young, Marie actively volunteered and served as former president of the Military Road Elementary School Parent Teachers Association in the Town of Niagara and as a former football cheerleading coach for the Niagara Wheatfield Athletic Association. In the late 1970's she became employed at the former Coutts Library Service in Lewiston, NY and retired in 1996. Marie was a member of St. Leo's Church where she served as a Religious Education Teacher as well as a member of their Senior's Club. She enjoyed watching classic and mystery films, listening to music, completing arts and crafts projects and reading, particularly mystery novels. Marie was an ardent supporter of the St. Jude Shrine and had an affirmation to St. Jude.

In addition to her husband of fifty four years, Mrs. Johnson is survived by two children Mark J. Johnson of Cheektowaga, NY and Judith C. Johnson of North Tonawanda, NY; one brother Santo (Adeline) Candella of Youngstown, NY; one sister Lucille (late Phillip) DiPasquale of Niagara Falls, NY; one aunt, one uncle and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by one brother James Candella.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday April 25th at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent DePaul Parish at St. Leo's Church, 2748 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston NY. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice Inc. 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
