Obituary

Marie G. (Longo) Perry was born in Niagara Falls to the late Michael and Antoinette Longo (Meranto) on September 8, 1935. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1953 and The Erie County Technical Institute (now ECC) School of Dental Hygiene. Marie pursued additional coursework in Health Education at the University of Buffalo and Cortland State Teachers College.

She worked as a Dental Hygiene teacher for the Niagara Falls Board of Education, where she met her future husband, Jerome Perry, a Physical Education teacher. They married on August 27, 1960 with Papal blessings at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY. After the birth of their first child, Marie became a homemaker.

She remained active in her community, serving as a room mother at St. John De LaSalle School and as a pack leader for Boy Scout Den 841. In 1978, the family moved to Grand Island, and Marie returned to college, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work, Summa Cum Laude, from Buffalo State College. She then worked for Niagara Falls Catholic Charities and Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center until her retirement in 1994.

Marie enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. She gathered friends wherever she went with her open, genuine personality. She will be remembered for her love of music, a passion for cleaning, selfless generosity and words of wisdom perfectly timed when they were needed most.

She is predeceased by her husband, parents, and younger brother, Charles Michael Longo (1946). She is survived by her children Ann PerrySmith (Jerry), Michele Perry, and Stephen Perry; her brother Charles Thomas and his wife Rosalie (Gangi) Longo; nieces Mia Longo and Alicia Longo; special cousins Mary Sattelberg (late Alan), Fran DeLuca (Louis), Angelo Fiacco (BaoHong), Nancy Powell (Keith), and Charles Fiacco (Rosanna) and many more dear nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.

Private services will be held on a future date at the convenience of the family. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations can be made to Hospice Buffalo, Catholic Charities of Buffalo or Buffalo Toronto Public Media NPR.
