Mario N. Volpe, 90, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Saturday December 4, 2010 at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Panfilo and Francesca (D'Andrea) Volpe.

Mario served in the United States Army during World War II from September 28, 1942 until his honorable discharge on December 31, 1945 and received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and World War II Victory Medal. On January 29, 1950 he married Bambina (Giuliani) Volpe in Introdacqua, Italy. Mrs. Volpe predeceased him on February 23, 2007. Mario was the owner of Niagara Shoe Repair and also worked in the shipping department at Nabisco Shredded Wheat, both in Niagara Falls, until his retirment in December of 1982. Mario was a member of the Nabisco Retirees Club, an avid New York Yankees fan and enjoyed working in his garden. Most importantly, Mario enjoyed spending time with his family.

Mr. Volpe is survived by three daughters; Manola DeMunda, Frances (Michael) DeSantis, Carol (Richard) Gillis, all of Niagara Falls, NY; one son Robert (Lisa) Volpe of Amherst, NY. He is "Pippa" of nine grandchildren; Julie (Gary) Hall, Allyson DeMunda, Paul DeMunda, Dr. Melissa (Alex) Uribes, Peter (Dr. Monique Mirshak) DeSantis, Nicholas DeSantis, Marc Volpe, Tessa Gillis, Anthony Gillis; seven great-grandchildren, Ava, Taylor, Mya DeSantis, Gary, Rocco Hall, Riley and Chase Uribes. He also leaves a brother Pasquale (Gilda) Volpe; two sisters Philomena (late Giuseppe) Volpe, Paolina (late Aldo) Robazza, all of Niagara Falls, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Elio and Oreste Volpe.

Friends may call on Tuesday 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI AND SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where services will begin on Wednesday December 8th at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Rite of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 N. Military Rd. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. Entombment with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
