Mark J. Gelotte, 95, of North Port, FL, formerly of North Tonawanda, NY died on Monday December 6, 2010 at Charlotte Harbor Health Care in Port Charlotte, FL. Born in Barnesboro, PA he was the son of the late Anthony and Lucy (Onorato) Gelotte. He was predeceased by his wife Lucy G. (Lawton) Gelotte in November 1978.
Mark graduated from high school in Warren, PA and later attended Penn State University enrolled in their chemical engineering program. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was a resident of North Tonawanda, NY for forty years and has lived in Florida for the past ten years. Mark was a pioneer in the refining of waste oil, building two refineries in Toronto and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and retired as vice president of Booth Oil in North Tonawanda, NY. Mark was also an avid gardener who enjoyed raising roses.
Mark is survived by four sons Frederick Gelotte of New York City; David (late Helene) Gelotte of Seekonk, MA; Mark A. (Sharon) Gelotte of North Tonawanda, NY and William Gelotte of North Port, FL and was predeceased by one daughter Dolores Gelotte. He is also survived by nine grandchildren Daniel Gelotte, Matthew Gelotte, Sharon (Chris) Gibbs, David (Laura) Gelotte, Sean Gelotte, Amy (Kevin) Martin, Timothy (fiancé Michelle Delaplante) Gelotte, Shawn Richards and Erin (Brett) McCabe; eleven great grandchildren four sisters and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by three brothers and one sister.
Friends may call on Saturday December 11th from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Private services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Acacia Park Cemetery, North Tonawanda, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
