Mary A. Colosi, 96, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 1st, 2013 surrounded by those who loved her deeply. She was born in Florence, PA and after the death of her father, James Gulli, during the flu epidemic of 1918, moved to Niagara Falls, NY as a young child, where she was raised by her loving parents Josephine and Angelo Sidoni. She married Peter F. Colosi on April 29, 1939 at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY and they were together until his death on March 23, 1985.
Mary's lifetime activities were marked by a ceaseless and selfless caring for her children and everyone she touched. She will best be remembered for her kind and gentle nature, and the way she expressed her love for others, especially through sewing and cooking. She was an extremely skilled seamstress who made beautiful clothes for herself and her family and was a family legend for her raviolis, cannolis and Christmas cookies. Mary was a member of St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY as well as its Socialites Society.
Mary will be greatly missed by her three children Joseph J. (Mary) Colosi of Las Vegas, NV; James (Terry) Colosi of Groton, MA and Kathleen Mitchell of Denver, CO. She is also survived by four grandchildren Linda (Mark) Stevenson, Joseph (Jessica) Colosi, Zachary Mitchell and Amaren Colosi; three great grandchildren Nicholas, Augustino and Olive; her sister Sophie (Robert) DiCamillo of Lewiston, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Peter, her sister Rose (late Sam) Antonucci and her brother Joseph (late Anita) Sidoni.
The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 2 – 5 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Monday May 6th at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane R. Klizek officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Mary's family wishes to extend their gratitude to Niagara Hospice and Northgate Health Care Facility for their support in her final days. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in her memory to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
