Obituary

Mary Ann Hitzges, 68, of Lockport, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the beloved daughter of the late Mary (Manarino) Ross and Armand J. “Mondo” Ross.

A dedicated student, Mary Ann graduated with High Honors from Kenmore East High School in 1976 and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University at Buffalo, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

On July 9, 1983, Mary Ann married the love of her life, Timothy J. Hitzges, at St. Albert the Great Church in North Tonawanda, NY.

Mary Ann dedicated over forty years of service as a Systems Engineer with General Motors Corporation, Delphi, and EDS in Lockport, NY prior to retiring in 2023.

Mary Ann was a unique and gentle soul who brought joy, laughter, and warmth to everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was the consummate planner, always finding a reason to celebrate and making every occasion special. Whether it was the Fourth of July, birthdays, or, most especially, Halloween and Christmas, Mary Ann poured her heart into creating unforgettable memories for those she loved.

Her Halloween parties were legendary, complete with hayrides, apple-dunking stations, and haunted houses for her daughters, nieces, nephews, and their classmates. Christmas held an especially special place in her heart. Her decorations were nothing short of spectacular and rivaled those of Macy's department store. She didn't simply decorate for the holidays; she created magic.

Mary Ann loved to travel and enjoyed countless road trips to Florida, visits to amusement parks, and, just three years ago, a memorable trip to Italy. She had a true sense of adventure and an undeniable love for roller coasters. Throughout her lifetime, she rode just about every one she could find, always embracing the excitement and thrill of the ride.

She also loved the water. Whether spending hours on her boat or relaxing in her pool, she was happiest when surrounded by sunshine and water. The Gulf of Mexico was a particular favorite, where she would happily float on her raft, sometimes drifting much farther out than her family would have liked. It was just another example of Maryann doing things her own way and enjoying every minute of life.

Her love of classic cars, especially Corvettes, brought her and her husband, Tim, together at numerous car shows. She treasured these events not only for the beautiful cars but, more importantly, for the opportunity to socialize and connect with people. Making friends and spending time with others came naturally to Mary Ann and was one of her greatest gifts.

A Pepsi filled with ice, chicken wings, and a hot fudge sundae (with the fudge on the bottom) were among her favorite indulgences. But as much as she enjoyed life's simple pleasures, nothing could ever compare to the love she had for her family and friends.

Mary Ann was always there for the people she loved. She was their biggest cheerleader, encouraging their plans, supporting their goals, and believing in their dreams. She cared for her elderly mother with extraordinary patience, kindness, and integrity. As a mother, she devoted herself to raising her daughters Katelyn, Julie and Christina with the hope and determination that each of them would grow into the very best versions of themselves and find success in life. Her new role as a grandmother to Archer, Gia, Sophia, Aria and Cooper was one she approached with her usual enthusiasm and love for family.

Mary Ann had a way of making people feel loved, supported, and important. Her generosity of spirit, her enthusiasm for life, her devotion to family, and her gift for friendship were truly special.

We are all better people for having known Mary Ann and for having had the privilege of sharing our lives with her. The memories she created, the love she gave, and the friendships she nurtured will live on for generations.

Mary Ann's life was a celebration of family, friendship, adventure, and love. Though she may no longer be with us, the joy she brought into our lives will never fade. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

In addition to her husband, Timothy J. Hitzges of 43 years; she is survived by her daughters, Katelyn Hitzges, Ph.D., Julie D.N.P. (Taylor) Kacz and Christina (Dalton) Lemieux; her cherished grandchildren, Sophia, Gia, Cooper, Archer, and Aria; her siblings, Lynn (Sam) Pinto, David (Terri) Ross, and Lori (Paul) Moskaluk; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 4 - 8 P.M. at M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304. Mary Ann’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 11:30 A.M. at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 64 Center Avenue, North Tonawanda, NY 14120.
