Celebrated 100 Years
Mary L.E. (Giancarli) Stempien, 100 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away at her residence on Saturday January 11, 2014. Born in Oakfield, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Annunziata (DeSimone) Giancarli.
Mary lived in Oakfield, NY before moving to Niagara Falls in 1929 where she finished her education at Trott Vocational High School.
Mary was employed as a proof reader at the Salesbook Co. When World War II broke out, she went to work at Bell Aircraft as an aircraft inspector, and following the war, she worked at Carborundum Company in the planning office.
In 1947 she married Stephen A. Stempien and together they raised four children who were all college educated. Mary worked part-time at DiCamillo Bakery for 19 years until her retirement. Mary was a 63 year member of Prince of Peace Church where she also served as a member of their Mother's Club, Altar and Rosary Society and the Legion of Mary. Mary also served in the Mothers Club of Madonna High School and as a chaperone for the graduating class. She was an avid reader, exquisite seamstress, devoted viewer of EWTN, and also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Stempien was predeceased by her husband Stephen A. Stempien on December 2, 1997. She is survived by her three children, Marie Stempien of San Francisco, Ca, Nancy Stempien and Stephen (Paula) Stempien both of East Amherst, NY, a step-daughter Beverly (Fred) Feldhousen of Youngstown, NY, and was predeceased by one daughter Shirley (Randall of North Carolina) Carda. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jessica Carda - Auten, Lincoln Carda, Alexa Carda, Ryan Stempien, Stefany Stempien and Elise Stempien, three step-grandchildren, Michael (May) Marrone, John (Ellen) Marrone and Jimmy (Michelle) Marrone, two sisters, Olga Masella and Florine Michaels-Smith both of Land O' Lakes, FL and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also predeceased by a sister Livia Gaudio-Wilson and brother Robert Giancarli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday January 15th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church 1055 North Military Road Niagara Falls, NY. Mary's family will receive relatives and friends at Church at 10:30 a.m. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, offerings for a religious icon in memory of Mary Stempien may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church 1055 North Military Road Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
