Mary R. (Abate) Floramo, 96, of Wheatfield Towers in Wheatfield, NY passed away on Thursday August 20, 2009 in her home surrounded by her family under the care of Niagara Hospice. Born October 10, 1912 in Dunkirk, NY she was the daughter of the late Nicola and Antonina (Tripoli) Abate. She married Fred S. Floramo on November 22, 1930, and together they moved to Niagara Falls, NY.

Mary worked at Chisholm Ryder during World War II making triggers for guns. She later worked for the former W. T. Grant and Company for many years retiring in 1975. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Fred in 1975. Mary was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society Ladies Auxiliary and was honored in 2008 as their oldest member. She enjoyed reading, crocheting and being with her family. She also liked getting her hair done every Friday and going out for a fish dinner.

Mrs. Floramo is survived by two children Anthony S. Floramo of Rochester, NY and Frances M. Rosati of Niagara Falls, NY; seven grandchildren, William (Dianna) Rosati, Patrice Rosati, Joseph (Valerie) Rosati, Maria (James) Faso, Paul (Colleen) Floramo, Michael Floramo and David (Theresa) Floramo, seven great- grandchildren Brian, LoriAnn, Mark (Wendy), John, Kevin and Peter Floramo and Gianna Francesca Rosati, one great great-grandson Branden Floramo and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by six brothers, Anthony (Helen) Abate, Carmello (Gloria) Abate, Robert (Sally) Abate, Fred (Mary) Abate, Joseph Abate, Andrea (Merielle of Buffalo, NY) Abate and one sister Angela Dawson.

Friends may call on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday August 22nd at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Niagara Hospice Inc., 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094 or to St. Jude Shrine, 975 Ridge Road, Lewiston, NY 14092.
