Mary Jane Spacone, 91, passed peacefully from this earth on June 16, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Laura (DeFranco) Salvatore. On July 24, 1952, Mary Jane married her lifelong love, Donald R. Spacone, Sr. They shared 43 years of marriage until Donnie’s passing on January 5, 1995.
Proud of her family and Italian heritage, Mary Jane attended local schools and was a devoted wife and loving mother of four children and Nani of six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Mary Jane’s faith in God was steadfast throughout her life, celebrating mass and annual Lenten Journey and praying daily for her family, friends and all in need.
Mary Jane’s history of supporting and serving her family and community is long and varied. She was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society, chairing and attending events, serving on committees and was honored as their 2017 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award. She also served as a member of the mother’s clubs of 22nd Street School, Sacred Heart School and Bishop Duffy High School, chairing fund raisers, attending her children’s sporting events and volunteering for extracurricular committees.
In the 1970’s, Mary Jane owned and operated Ceramatique, a ceramics shop in the city of Niagara Falls. She conducted instructional classes as well as crafted many beautiful pieces treasured by her family, friends and patrons. She also worked as a Welfare Case Worker for the Niagara County Department of Social Services.
Mary Jane was a member of the St. Francis Guild of Mount St. Mary’s Hospital for more than 20 years. She worked in the hospital gift shop and took photos of the newborn babies. She chaired the Pink Elephant Luncheon, several fashion shows, Christmas parties and was a member of the Board of Associates. She was also a member of the Lewiston Garden Club. As a member of the John Duke Senior Center and Vice President of the Socialites, she again chaired events such as Christmas parties, fashion shows and social events. Above all else, Mary Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who dedicated her life to her greatest joy, her family.
Mary Jane is survived by her beloved children, Andrew (Sally) Spacone, Donald Spacone, Jr., Michael (Maureen) Spacone and Mary Beth Spacone; her grandchildren, Lauren (Joshua) Spacone-Lerch, Alyssa (Marinos) Maroulis, Donald Spacone III, Marissa (Jarryd) Austin and Adriano Medici; her great grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophia Lerch, Roman, Amara and Eliana Maroulis, Amelia Spacone, David Spacone, Jr. and Jack Austin, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Jane was predeceased by her beloved grandson, David Spacone, Sr., whom she raised as a son, as well as her sisters, Antoinette (late Joseph) Lucido, and Margaret (late Herman Himes) (late Richard) Almon.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mary Jane’s Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 20th, at 11 AM, at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls NY, 14301. The family will receive visitors at the church following mass. Interment will be private in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Flowers are gratefully declined.
