Mary A. (Maietta) Nicolette, 85, of Lewiston, NY, died on Monday, June 23, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Lorenzo and Madeline (Cafaro) Maietta.
Mary was a devoted wife, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, artist and teacher. She cared deeply for her family and close circle of friends.
Mary graduated from Niagara Falls High School and later earned a Masters Degree in Education from Buffalo State College. On April 24, 1948 she married Louis O. Nicolette at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mary began working as an advertising manager at the former Beir's Department Store and also the former Ambassador Leather Goods both in Niagara Falls, NY. She then began a new career later in life as an art teacher for the Niagara Wheatfield School System and was a teacher at the former Military Road Elementary School when she retired. Mary also owned her own wedding planner and decorator business.
Mary was a member of the Buffalo Craftsman, New York State Art Teachers Association, Hand Weavers Guild of America, Ladies Sertoma Club and St. Peter's Altar and Rosary Society. In her leisure time she enjoyed teaching weaving and textile classes and was the Arts and Crafts Director for the City of Niagara Falls Recreation Program.
In addition to her husband of sixty six years, Mary is survived by three sons Mark L. (Joan) Nicolette, Larry T. (Kathy) Nicolette both of Lewiston, NY and Luke A. (Toni-Jean) of Liverpool, NY; eight grandchildren Christine, Matthew, Philip, Kathryn, Alan, Andrea, Michael and Luke; eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews cousins and dear friends. She was predeceased by two brothers Frank (Verna of Wheatfield, NY) Maietta and Larry (Doris of Niagara Falls, NY) Maietta.
Visitation will be on Friday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 28th, at 10:00 A.M. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Msgr. David LiPuma officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
