Obituary

Mary Catherine (Manfredo) Scrivano, 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday August 7th, 2011 at Eastern Niagara Hospital in Newfane, NY, following a lengthy illness. Mary was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Frank and Catherine Manfredo.

After her mother's passing when Mary was only 12 years old, she continued to care for her father and help run the household. On June 12, 1954, Mary was married to Salvatore Scrivano in St. Joseph Church, Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Scrivano was called away the very next day to serve his country as a member of the United States military in the Korean War. Upon his return, Mary and Salvatore went on to have five children, and continued to raise their family on 15th Street in Niagara Falls, just one block from where Mary grew up with her parents. Mr. Scrivano passed away on September 21, 1986.

In addition to raising her own five children, Mary will always be remembered for her nurturing spirit and love for children. Her home was always open to a child who needed a place to stay, whether it was for a day or a year. For this reason, "Nana Mary" was a second mother to many. Whether by cooking great meals or baking for her ever growing family, or babysitting a house full of children, Mary always made you feel welcome in her home. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and her black Labrador, Shadow, who was her constant companion.

Mary is survived by her children Frank (Nancy) Scrivano of Niagara Falls, NY, Joseph (Christine) Scrivano of Wheatfield, NY, Catherine Pendola of Niagara Falls, NY , Christina (Frank) Ruggiero of Niagara Falls, NY, and Gerald (Victoria) Scrivano of Ransomville, NY; fourteen grandchildren Stephanie Scrivano, Jillian Scrivano, Amber (Thomas) Coram, Janelle Scrivano, Joseph Scrivano, Mathew Scrivano, Jenna Scrivano, Danielle Pendola, Jaclyn Pendola, Nicole (Jason) Cafarella, Christopher Ruggiero, Justin Ruggiero, Samantha Scrivano, and Gerald Scrivano.; three great-grandchildren Jacob Scrivano, Leah Scrivano, Grace Coram; a brother John (Dorothy) Manfredo of Niagara Falls, NY, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two brothers Dominic (late Virginia) Manfredo and Joseph Manfredo.

Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 – 8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday August 11th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Salvatore. If desired memorials may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, P.O. Box 167, Youngstown, NY 14174-0167.
