Mary R. (Stoyanowski) Szalach, 88, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Dunmore, PA she was the daughter of Antoni and Anastasia (Lachowski) Stoyanowski.
Mary attended school in Pennsylvania and came to the Niagara Falls area in 1948 where she lived until the present time. On October 28, 1950 she married Louis A. Szalach in Pennsylvania and was predeceased by him in 1978. Throughout her lifetime, Mary worked at various jobs including being a housekeeper for several families in Niagara Falls, being a hardware store clerk and while living in Pennsylvania she was employed at a photography store that paints color portraits from black and white pictures.
When Mary's children were young she was active with their Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops and served as a Cub Scout den leader. She also volunteered for the LaSalle Little League. Mary enjoyed crafts and sewing. She was especially talented in crocheting and particularly liked making afghans. She was also very artistic and musically inclined.
Mary is survived by three children David L. (Lisa) Szalach of Lewiston, NY; William A. (Rosann) Szalach of Aurora, CO and Mary Lou (Kevin Papendick) Szalach of North Tonawanda, NY; six grandchildren Kristina, Tony, Jennifer, Michael, Olivia and Claire; one step grandchild Colin; two great grandchildren Caitlin and Alexis. She was predeceased by one brother and two sisters.
Mary's family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and everyone involved at Our Lady of Peace healthcare facility for the compassion and care that was given to her during her stay.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday March 31st at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent De Paul at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 North Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Jeff Nowak officiating. Interment in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
