Loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother
Mary E. Vitello passed away suddenly on August 11, 2019 at the age of 89. Mary was born on July 27, 1930 in Niagara Falls, NY. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Alberta (Marra) Petrone.
She married the late Salvatore (Sas) Vitello in 1954. They remained together until he passed in 1996.
Both her Father and Mother's families were from San Pier Niceto, Sicily. Mary was very proud of her Sicilian heritage.
Mary attended local schools, eventually graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1948. After graduating from high school, she worked at the Nabisco Co. Mary also worked for years with her sisters and parents at the family restaurant, Uncle Dud's, on Ferry Avenue in Niagara Falls. She continued working in the restaurant business at the Como Restaurant Deli and the Goose's Roost Deli downtown and at the airport until her retirement.
Mary was a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club and loved to golf every day after her retirement. She was also a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society.
Mary enjoyed playing bocce with her girlfriends every Thursday night in the summer months. It was one of her favorite activities.
Mary is survived by her two daughters; Lisa Vitello and the Hon. Diane Vitello, her grandchildren; Luke Touma and Lydia Connolly, her two sisters; Joan (late Carmen) Genovese and Patricia (Walter) Pfohl, brother-in-law; Angelo (Ducky) Fera, sons-in-law; Tom Connolly and Craig Touma, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by a brother Rocco (late Harriet) Petrone; sisters Frances (late Silvio) Oliverio and Carmella (Ducky) Fera.
Mary's legacy will live on through her grandchildren and in the hearts and minds of her friends and family. She will always be remembered for her extraordinary wisdom, kind heart, and joyful laugh.
Visitation will be on Friday, August 16 th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
