Mary F. (Pierce) Wawro, 65, of Youngstown, NY passed away on Wednesday July 22, 2015 at Buffalo General Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Born in Richland, Washington she was the daughter of the late Ross and Josephine (Alaimo) Pierce.
Mary came to the Niagara Falls area as a child with her family and attended local schools. In 1968 she graduated from Lew Port High School and later attended Niagara County Community College. She completed her education at Buffalo State College where she earned a Masters Degree in Education. Mary worked at the Como Restaurant in Niagara Falls for many years. On June 17, 1972 she married Robert C. Wawro in Lewiston, NY. Mary was a teacher with the Niagara Falls Board of Education teaching at various schools in the district, finishing her career as a kindergarten teacher at the Harry F. Abate Elementary School. Following retirement, Mary worked with the Niagara County Head Start Program. Mary enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also liked traveling, spending winters in Florida and reading.
In addition to her husband of forty three years, Mary is survived by two children Elizabeth (Bryan) Hall of Goshen, NY and Rodney (Tera) Wawro of Niagara Falls, NY; three grandchildren Eva, Alyssa and Owen; one sister Susan (Stuart) Keck of St. Louis, MO; her cousin Mary Jane Mingus of Niagara Falls, NY; her sister- and brother-in-law Diane (William) Adamek of Ridgeway, Ontario, Canada and David Wawro of Mt. Airy, MO; two nephews David (Karey) Adamek and John (Jenn) Adamek , cousins on the West Coast as well as many loving friends who were very near and dear to her heart including the Bowling Girls, Como Girls and Electricians' Wives.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 – 7 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will be held on Monday July 27th at 10:30 a.m. with Msgr. J. Thomas Moran officiating. Entombment in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
