Obituary

Mary K. LeBrun (Bobak) Zaccarella, 87, passed away on June 10, 2022 at home under the care of Niagara Hospice care surrounded by her family. Born on March 19, 1935 and raised in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Katherine (Hanlon) LeBrun.

Mary grew up on Cedar Avenue. Haberle Plaza was the place she used to go ice skating and enjoyed many good times there with her friends. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School and after graduating in 1952 went on to D'Youville College in Buffalo where she received her teaching degree.
In 1953, she married Andrew Bobak and they had nine children together but was a mother to many as she raised her children. At a Parents Without Partners meeting in 1973, she met Peter J. Zaccarella. She immediately knew she found the person who would love her and keep her happy the rest of her life. They married in 1975 and enjoyed many wonderful years together traveling, taking many bus tours throughout the U.S and Canada, including ocean liner tours and trip to the Holy Land. For the past 15 years they spent their winters in Mulberry, FL which she loved, leaving many good friends there.

She taught at several Catholic schools in Niagara Falls including Sacred Heart School where she taught 5th grade from 1976 to until her retirement in 1995, carrying many fond memories and wonderful friendships.

Mary K. was a lifetime member of the Catholic Church. She was a parishioner of many local parishes including Sacred Heart, the former St. Teresa's and was currently a parishioner at Holy Family Parish. Among her clubs and organizations, she was a Eucharist Minister and spiritual counselor for the Diocese of Buffalo, a member of the Legion of Mary, Cursillo, Marriage Encounter, Emmaus and Sacred Heart Prayer Group. She was also a lifetime charter member of the VFW Post 9249 Auxiliary on Grand Island. Mary K. and Pete enjoyed being members of the Rainbow Square Dancing Club and also took ballroom dancing classes.

She is survived by her husband, Peter; her eight children, Rita Hollister, Daniel (Myong) Bobak, Lauretta (late Thomas 'Bear') Brennan, Patricia (Rich) Bieniek, Edward Bobak, Jerome (Denise) Bobak, Katherine (Tom) Bossard, Theresa (Akbar) Alizadeh; her step son, Anthony Zaccarella and step daughter, Jeanette (Butch) Barrington; 50 grandchildren, 64 great grandchildren and 21 in-law grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
