Obituary

Maryann Haberl Hurley, a longtime resident of Palm Beach, Florida and Buffalo, New York died on June 3, 2023 at 94 years of age. She was born on September 12,1928 in Buffalo, New York to George Joseph and Ella Eugenia Brady Haberl.

Maryann was raised in Buffalo, New York and graduated from Saint Mary's Seminary in Buffalo. She also graduated from Chevy Chase College in Washington, D.C. where Maryann met her husband of 70 years, John Lee Hurley while he was attending Georgetown University Law School.

Maryann served on the Board of Directors and was a former President of The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Women's Committee as well as Chairman and Honorary Chairman of The Buffalo Philharmonic Ball. In 2001, at the 50th anniversary of The Philharmonic Ball, Maryann was honored as Woman of the Year. She was active in the Junior League of Buffalo and served as Co - Chairman of the Thrift Shop Committee. Maryann actively supported Canisius College events and carried on her parents' legacy by continuing to contribute to the George and Ella Haberl Scholarship Program at Canisius College.

Maryann was a member of St. Edwards Church and Guild in Palm Beach, Florida.  She was also a member of The Buffalo Club, The Country Club of Buffalo, The Garret Club, Buffalo, New York and The Beach Club in Palm Beach, Florida.

Maryann adored her family and friends and was a loving mother to her children John L. Hurley Jr. (Diane), Kevin B. Hurley (Maureen), Anne B. Hurley (Thomas) and Barbara B. Hurley. Adored grandmother to her five grandchildren: Melissa Hurley Denys (Charlie), John L. Hurley III (Kathleen), Gregory G. Hurley (Amy), George C. Hurley, Emily A. Hurley and four great grandchildren: Griffin L. Denys, Maxwell J. Denys, John L. Hurley IV and Grace L. Hurley. Maryann is predeceased by her husband John Lee Hurley and her son George Emmett Hurley.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 11, 2023 at 9:30 AM at St. Louis Roman Catholic Church, 35 Edward Street, Buffalo, New York. Family and friends are welcome.  Interment in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Kenmore NY.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra.  Arrangements by M.J.
