Michael F. Baldi, 99, formerly of Buffalo, NY and Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on February 1, 2020 at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Facility, Lewiston, NY. Born in Italy, he was the son of the late Joseph and Catina (Enrico) Baldi.
Michael came to the United States as a child with his family. He proudly served in the United States Army in the 546th Field Artillery Battalion in Central Europe and Germany from 1942 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On April 27, 1946, he married Marie G. (Collura) Baldi at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Buffalo, NY. Mrs. Baldi predeceased him on December 13, 2008.
Mike was employed with the New York State Teamsters Union working as a local truck driver for 35 years mainly with Inner City Truck Lines until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of Amvets in North Tonawanda, NY, and enjoyed bowling in various local leagues as well as playing cards and pool. Above all, he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family.
Michael is survived by his children, Kathleen (Richard) Lewis, Angeline (Louis) Curtis, and Joseph M. Baldi; seven grandchildren, Michael Sawyer, Cory Sawyer, Lisa Sawyer, Rachael (Dustin) Terry, Ralph Michael (Christina) Gephart, Ashley Baldi and Nicholas Urbaney; five great grandchildren, Gavin Zinz, Taylor Sawyer, Angelo M. Rufrano PFC, USMC, Brennen Gephart and Andrew Gephart, Gracie Beach and Kennedy Beach; two step-grandchildren, Marla (John) Berry and Jason Lewis; one step- great- granddaughter, Marissa as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife of 62 years, Michael was predeceased by his twin brother, Angelo (late Frances) Baldi and brothers, John (late Jennie) Baldi and Rico (late Ida) Baldi.
Funeral services for Michael and Marie will be held on Friday, February 7th at 11:00 AM in the All Saints Mausoleum Chapel of Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 500 Riverdale Avenue, Lewiston, NY concluding with Military Honors for Mike's service to our country during World War II. If desired, memorial offerings in Michael's name may be made to St. Jude Children Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements by M.J.
