Michael P. DeFelice, 68, of the Town of Niagara, NY passed away on May 24, 2013 at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son to the late Nicola and Carmella (Lorello) DeFelice.
Mike was a lifelong resident of the Niagara Falls area. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. Afterwards he attended Niagara County Community College and Buffalo State College where he studied education and received two Master's Degrees. On November 25, 1966 Michael married his loving wife, Karen (Hill) DeFelice at Prince of Peace Church in Niagara Falls. Mike, or "Mr. D" as he was known by his students, began a thirty two year career as an educator at the former Trott Vocation High School where he also served as Athletic Director. Following the schools closing, he transferred to the former LaSalle Senior High School, were he remained until his retirement in 2000. Mike served as a member and past president on the Niagara Wheatfield School Board. He was also a member of the Oxy Chemical Citizen Advisory Board and Special Olympic Committee. One of Mike's personal passions in life was being an advocate for children with special needs. During high school and college, Mike excelled in both track and field, and soccer. In his leisure time he also enjoyed bowling, golfing, gardening and above all, spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 46 years, Mr. DeFelice is survived by his three children, Susan (John) Mancuso of North Tonawanda, NY, Lisa (Peter) Musialowski and Michael (Jennifer) DeFelice both of Lancaster, NY; five grandchildren, Louisa and John Mancuso, Jake Musialowski, Michael and Anthony DeFelice, his brothers and sisters, Nicholas (Virginia) DeFelice of Hunt Valley, MD, Gary (Louise) DeFelice of Wheatfield, NY, Marie (Anthony) Amerose of Greece, NY and Elizabeth (George) Johns of Wheatfield, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Sunday from 7 – 9 P.M. and Monday from 2 -4 & 7 – 9 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday May 28th at 10:00 in St. Vincent De Paul Parish at Prince of Peace Church, 1055 Military Road Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Robert Hughson officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Entombment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Lewiston, NY. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the B.
