Obituary

Michael Granata, 84, of Lewiston, NY, passed away on January 20, 2026, at Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late James and Josephine (Brigante) Granata.

Michael and his twin brother, James, were the first set of twins born in Niagara Falls in 1941. He was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School.  Michael proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1961. On July 2, 1970, he married Roseanna (DiMeo) Granata in Lewiston, NY.

Mike began his career as President of the Union at Airco Speer Carbon in Niagara Falls. In 1979, he joined the New York Power Authority, where he served as President and Business Manager for IBEW 2104 for 23 years, retiring in 2002. He was known for his strong will, unwavering dedication, and respected leadership in fighting for his union brothers.

A man of many passions, Mike was an avid golfer, a lover of jazz music, and a proud grandfather who rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his grandchildren, especially at hockey and wrestling events. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family.

In addition to his wife of 55 years, he is survived by his children, Michael (Dr. Lauren) Granata, Mario Granata, and Jina (Tony) Chaplow; his grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Emma, Marcello, Valentino, and Graciella; and his brother, Samuel (Cheryl) Granata. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, and was the brother-in-law of Louie DiMeo and AnnMarie Mancuso.  He was predeceased by his twin brother, James (late Barbara) Granata; his brothers, Frank (late Joan) Granata and Charles Granata; and his sister, Ida (late Art) Shaw.
