Obituary

Michael A. Lucatra, 86, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Wednesday May 9, 2012 at his residence. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary (Mule) Lucatra.

Michael was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During World War II he served in the United States Army with Company C 393rd Engineer Regiment from 1944 until his honorable discharge in 1946. On September 16, 1950 he married Agatha M. (DeMiglio) Lucatra at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Michael was employed at the former Nabisco Shredded Wheat Company in Niagara Falls, NY and retired as a foreman in 1983 after forty years of service. Following his retirement he became a member of the Nabisco Shredded Wheat Retirement Club. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 247 and the North End Reunion Club. Mike enjoyed gardening and was an avid fan of the New York Yankees. In his younger years, he also enjoyed playing football, bowling and golfing. Mike was especially known for playing Santa Clause at numerous events at Christmas time.

In addition to his wife of sixty-one years, Mr. Lucatra is also survived by one sister, Theresa (late Willis) McManigle of the Town of Lockport, NY; one brother Anthony (late Shirley) Lucatra of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews, great- nieces, great-nephews and cousins. He was the brother-in-law of, Loretta (late Joseph) Downie of Niagara Falls, NY; Anthony (Antoinette) DeMiglio of Youngstown, NY; Sarah 'Gloria' DeMiglio of Niagara Falls, NY, Ann (John) Barry of Lawrenceville, GA and MaryAnn (late Stephen) Ventry of Lewiston, NY. He was also predeceased by one brother John (Antoinette of Niagara Falls, NY) Lucatra.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 6 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday May 14th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Mary of the Cataract Church, 259 Fourth Street, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Jacek Mazur officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
