Obituary

Mike Guadno 95 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2012 in Schoellkopf Health care facility, Niagara Falls, NY. Mike's family would like to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of the second floor as well as Niagara Hospice for their care and support. Mike was born November 6, 1916 in Fort City, Pennsylvania and moved to this area as a young child with his ten sisters and one brother. He was the son of the late Andrew and Michelina (Conti) Guadno.

Mike attended local schools and on October 4, 1941 he married the love of his life Palma Finelli at Epiphany Church, Niagara Falls, NY and personally attended First Assembly of God in Niagara Falls, NY. Palma predeceased Mike November 30, 2009. Mike proudly served in the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) prior to being inducted in the US Navy in December 1943. He served as a naval gunner aboard the merchant marine tanker referred to as the USS The Dallas. In 1979 Mike retired from General Motors Tonawanda engine plant where he worked in production. He was commonly referred to as the "Candy Man" in Niagara Falls and his greatest joy was being with friends and family and passing out candy to everyone especially children. He will always be remembered for an outgoing personality and booming voice.

Mike is survived by his daughter Michal (Robert) Broeker of Niagara Falls, NY, grandson Michael Broeker of San Francisco, California, sisters Mary Corulli, Christine Zakia, Sara Bliskey, Vera Ferro, Gelsie Vizo and Betty DiMaria. Mike is also survived by a sister-in-law Rose (late Sam) Finelli of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by one brother Fred Guadno and four sisters Bella Turco, Julia Massoni, Jean Quarantillo and Edith Merino.

Visitation will begin Thursday from 3 – 6 pm at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK where funeral services will be held Friday January 13th at 11:00 AM with the Rev. James Armpriester officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to the First Assembly of God Church 9750 Niagara Falls Blvd, NF, NY 14304 to support the food pantry for the needy.
