Obituary

Morgan D. Drew, 73, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on September 10, 2026, at Elderwood at Wheatfield. Born in San Francisco, CA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Sue (Empl) Westrum.

Morgan spent her early years in California before moving with her family to Japan, Germany, and Mississippi, eventually returning to California, where she graduated from Tustin High School in Tustin, CA. She went on to earn her Criminal Justice Degree from California State Fullerton, beginning what would become a long and meaningful career in law enforcement. Morgan worked as a Corrections Officer in Riverside, CA, and later in Animal Control for Orange County, CA, before embarking on a 32‑year career as a Probation Officer in San Bernardino County, retiring in 2005. She took tremendous pride in her work, mentoring youth, helping them secure scholarships, and guiding many toward brighter futures.

In February 2004, Morgan married Paula J. Shank in San Francisco, CA. They shared 33 wonderful years together and relocated to Niagara Falls in 2006. A lifelong learner, Morgan earned a degree in Culinary Arts from Niagara County Community College, as well as a Caregiver Certification from HANCI.

Morgan enjoyed refurbishing houses, gardening, and had a deep love for animals—especially horses and dogs. She cherished time spent working with animals, loved desserts, and found joy in traveling, particularly on cruises and to her timeshare in Hawaii. Morgan loved playing cards and games with family and friends, especially game nights at Janet Bradigan's house, where she loved her delicious cooking. She also enjoyed going to the casino. Above all, she will be remembered for her big heart and her sense of humor, qualities that endeared her to everyone she met.

In addition to her wife, Paula, Morgan is survived by her brother, Michael Westrum; her dear niece, Vanessa Hill, who was like a daughter to her; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and in‑laws. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Stephen Westrum, and sister, Christine Westrum.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 18, from 4 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304, with funeral services beginning at 7 PM. A private Celebration of Morgan’s Life will be held at a later date. If desired, memorial offerings may be made to the Niagara County SPCA (Niagara County SPCA), www.niagaraspca.org/.
