A Life Well Lived

To know Morris Milford Larrington Souvenir was to know a man of quiet strength, unwavering faith, and selfless love. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a faithful servant of Jehovah. Whether providing for his family, encouraging others spiritually, or lending a helping hand to those in need, Morris lived a life defined not by what he possessed, but by what he gave. His legacy is one of sacrifice, integrity, compassion, and an unshakable trust in Jehovah.

On July 28, 2026, Morris passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the love he shared, the faith he lived by, and the example he set will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Morris was born on June 16, 1939, in Bagotville, West Bank Demerara, Guyana, to the late Virgil and Elise "Eloise" Souvenir.

The Making of a Provider

As a young teen, Morris experienced the heartbreaking and life-altering loss of his father. In the wake of that loss, he willingly stepped into greater responsibilities, working milk deliveries and laboring on the family farm to help support his mother and siblings during a difficult time.

Once he came of age, Morris joined the police force. The values of hard work, sacrifice, and devotion that were forged in his youth continued to shape the husband, father, and man he would become.

His Happy Place

The same fierce provider mentality that sustained his family in his youth became one of the defining qualities of Morris as a husband and father. Providing for his family meant more than meeting their needs. It meant creating a home where everyone felt welcomed, well fed, and loved. He learned the art of cooking from his mother and perfected his skills through years of practice, becoming well known for his Guyanese dishes, including souse, chicken curry, beef curry, and pepperpot. For Morris and Cecelia, sharing a meal was their love language, and their home was often filled with warmth, laughter, and hospitality.

Morris had a remarkable green thumb and found great satisfaction in tending his garden. Even during challenging growing seasons, he had a special gift for coaxing vegetables to flourish, taking quiet pride in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends.

Morris and Cecelia loved music and dancing together and were known to use every inch of the dance floor. Even when mobility became a challenge later in life, Morris mastered the art of dancing from his chair and with the help of his walker, never losing his love for music or the happiness it brought him.

An avid cricketer, Morris enjoyed time on the cricket field, proudly playing in the police force cricket league, where his competitive spirit, teamwork, and love of the game were evident.

The Love That Changed Everything

During a time of racial unrest, Morris accompanied his family to a convention of Jehovah's Witnesses out of concern for their safety. What he witnessed that day was something entirely unexpected, the genuine love and unity displayed among people of different races. Wondering what made such peace and harmony possible, Morris asked how this could be. A family friend answered his question from God's Word, the Bible, using John 13:35.

Seeing this sincere love in action, along with the Bible's explanation, touched Morris deeply and moved him to want to learn more. He accepted a Bible study and was later baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses in 1974.

Those Who Cherish His Memory

Morris leaves behind his beloved wife Cecelia "Baba" Souvenir; children Maxwell (Lauren) Souvenir, Yuette Souvenir, Rhonda Souvenir, Esther (Courtney) Grant, and Lois Souvenir. He is also remembered by his sisters Virgilee Souvenir, Mildred Souvenir, Nora Souvenir-Burke, Olga "Cleo" (Bernard) Killikelly, Lynda Mitchell, Juliette Souvenir, Joylyn December, and Eslyn Souvenir; brothers Leon Souvenir, Royston "Aubrey" (Denise) Souvenir, and Prince Eldon Prowell; sisters-in-law Jean Slowe, Joyce Clarke, Earlene Reid, and Zilla Clarke; grandchildren Latisha Sam, Courey Grant, Stanford Souvenir, Marico Souvenir, Maxine Souvenir, and Malecia Souvenir; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends, and spiritual family.

He was predeceased by his sons Mark Souvenir and Asquith Souvenir; parents Virgil and Elise "Eloise" Souvenir; father-in-law and mother-in-law Earl and Inez "Maud" Clarke; sister Yvonne Prowell and brothers-in-law Carl Clarke and Donald Slowe.

Memorial Service

Morris' Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at a time to be announced at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3200 17th Street, Niagara Falls, NY 14305. (Livestream - Zoom details to come).
