Murlene Smith, 69, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2018, at N.F. Memorial Medical Center, after a lengthy illness. Born in Brantley, AL, she was the daughter of the late Dewey and Myrtle (Cauley) Smith.

Murlene was raised in Alabama and moved to Niagara Falls in 1965. She was currently employed by HANCI as a foster grandmother at Maple Avenue School for many years.

Ms. Smith was a longtime, devoted member of St. John's AME Church where she was the corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the church Advisory Sunshine Committee, Hospital and Kitchen Committee, Greeter's Committee and the Althea David Missionary Society.

Murlene was an avid card player and also enjoyed playing bingo and dominos. She was also an excellent cook and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Ms. Smith is the loving mother of Gwendolyn Smith, Darryl (M. Anne) Smith, Shawn Morris, and Andrea Hunt; beloved grandmother of Shanna, Raemon, Darryl Jr., Shawn Jr., Cainan, Andrew, Sharae, Cachae, Amir, Javion, Zaeshaun, Naparia, Arquan, Adrianna, and Ameerah; cherished great-grandmother of ten; dear sister of Betty (Dr. Leon) Smith, Lizetta (late Perry, Sr.) Sealey, Dewey (Andrea) Smith, Jr., Derrick Smith, and Darnell (Tanya) Smith. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and Wilma Luckerson, RubyLean Cauley and Janice Bradberry who were like special sisters to her. Murlene was predeceased by her son Warren Hunt, her grandson Arquez Hunt and two sisters Annie Ruth Ellison and Latanya Oakley.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 22 ^nd from 10 – 12 Noon at St. John's AME Church, 917 Garden Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where funeral services will follow at 12 Noon.
