Nancy J. Colosi of Niagara Falls, NY, born September 17, 1923, entered into rest Saturday January 24, 2015 surrounded by her loving family. Born in Washington, PA she was the daughter of the late Guiseppe and Rosa (Nastasi) Colosi.
Nancy graduated from Washington High School in Washington, PA in 1941. She began her career with the United States government in Washington, DC in January 1942 after the start of WWII. There, she started as a Junior Clerk Stenographer in the office of the Chief Signal Officer. In October 1942, she was transferred to Philadelphia, PA and she progressed to the position of Supervisory Supply Specialist. She held several additional positions, and received numerous awards and citations, including being selected to represent the Electronics Command of the Department of the Army. In this role, she developed computer programs to mechanize various phases of logistics programs in St. Louis, MO. After 30 ½ years, Nancy retired from the Federal government and in 1972 moved to Niagara Falls, NY. There she worked for DeVeaux Services Inc. founded by Alphonso and Leonard DiMino, and operated a number of TOPS Markets and BKWIK Stores.
Nancy was an active and avid supporter of the Italian Sons and Daughters of America (ISDA) where she had been a member since 1929. Since joining the organization, she served as a board member of the Fraternal Organization for eight years and as a National Councilor for 36 years. Her home lodge was Volare Lodge #269 in Niagara Falls, where she served as president for 20 years. Nancy was an integral part of the success of the Volare Lodge.
Nancy was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres.
Nancy is survived by her sister, Catherine "Kay" (late Alphonso) DiMino of Niagara Falls, NY and had been living with her niece Ann Marie (Steven) Hepfer and her great-nieces, Kristy and Sarah, and great-nephew Johnathan. Nancy is also survived by her nieces, Rosanna Colosi, Mary Lou (Phil) Weaver, Mary Rose Casero, Rene (Michael) Marinucci and Claudia (Jan) Deuro, nephews, Anthony DiMino, Joseph (Julie) Colosi, Nicholas (Melissa) Colosi, Jr. and Michael (Lynn) Kevekordes. In addition to the Hepfer children, she is also survived by 15 great-nephews, 10 great-nieces, 5 great-great- nieces and 4 great- great- nephews. In addition to her parents, Nancy was also predeceased by two brothers, Mariano (Josephine of Niagara Falls, NY) Colosi, Nicholas (Mary of Niagara Falls, NY) Colosi; her sister Grace (late Albert) Kevekordes; and a nephew Robert Kevekordes.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY RD. NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Wednesday January 28th at 9:15 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. The ISDA will conduct a service on Tuesday at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094 or the Nancy J.
