Beloved, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend
Nancy A. (Risio) Rescigno, 76 of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Monday October 20, 2014 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Morreale) Risio.
Nancy was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls. She attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1956 and later Buffalo State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. On August 25, 1962, she married Louis J. Rescigno at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church. Mr. Rescigno predeceased her on October 4, 2003. Nancy worked many years as a substitute teacher for the Niagara Falls Board of Education until her retirement in 2005. Nancy was a devout Catholic and attended Mass daily. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and Communicant, and was a member of their, Madonna Soccorso Society, Padre Pio Prayer Group and Anime Sante Del Purgatorio Society. She was also a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Ladies Society, New York State Retired Teachers Association and Excelsior's Mothers Club. Nancy loved to shop and was a fabulous cook. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family especially her grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her three daughters, Anne T. (Louis) Oliveri of Cambria, NY, Christina M. Shomers (Michael King) of Ransomville, NY and Mary F. (Michael) McVay of New Castle, PA, 7 grandchildren, Matthew Attfield, Caitlin Attfield, Frank Shomers, Andrew Shomers, Margaret Rose McVay, Michael McVay and Mariana McVay, one brother Lawrence (Lucia) Risio of Niagara Falls, NY, her dear friend Dolores Laurrie, as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL 2730 MILITARY ROAD NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday October 23rd at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph's Church 1413 Pine Ave. Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Stewart Lindsay O.S.F.S. officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery Niagara Falls, NY.
