Neil A. Scrinzi, 86, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on Wednesday, May 9 th , 2018 at his residence under the loving care of his family, health-care aide Jodie Neadow, and Niagara Hospice. Born in Hazelton, PA, on August 31, 1931, he was the son of the late Dominic and Emma (Motter) Scrinzi.
Neil moved to Niagara Falls, NY following his graduation from Hazelton High School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in the Korean War until his Honorable Discharge. On November 12, 1955 he married his loving wife, Eda (Zambotti) Scrinzi at St. Joseph Church.
Neil was employed as a truck driver for Falls Welding Supply Company for over 30 years until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the VFW Post 54 and loved to be outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and enjoyed making trips to the Southern Tier, Old Forge, NY, as well as Lake Opikinimika and the Dumoine River in Quebec. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and tending to his garden. He was a jack-of-all trades who was always there for family and friends to help work on things. Above all, Neil will be greatly remembered for his dry sense of humor and caring personality.
In addition to his wife of 62 years, he is survived by his children, Dennis (Cindy) Scrinzi of Gasport, NY, Ronald (Lisa) Scrinzi of Palm Harbor, FL and Sharon (Bill) Woodley of Youngstown, NY; his grandchildren, Ashley (Alex) Haney, Ryan Scrinzi, Alyssa (fiance Drew Benton) Woodley, William Woodley II and Kali Woodley; he was also blessed to have met his great-granddaughter, Amaya Mae Benton. Neil is also survived by many nieces, nephews and his extended family. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Scrinzi.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 14 th from 4 – 8 P.M. at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Neil's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 A.M. in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls. Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice. Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
