Obituary

Nevia (Tiberi) Fontanarosa, 99, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY. Nevia was born on November 10, 1914 in Introdacqua, L'Aquila Abruzzi, Italy. She was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Bambina (DeSantis) Tiberi.

Nevia came to Niagara Falls, NY in 1930 where she resided in until the time of her death. She was educated in Italy but took classes at the former 24th Street School in Niagara Falls to learn English. It was there that she met her husband, Ennio G. Fontanarosa. Nevia married Ennio on May 16, 1932 at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Ennio passed away on January 26, 1982 after forty nine years of marriage. Nevia was employed at Bell Aircraft in Niagara Falls, NY for two years and retired in 1975 from the Carborundum Co., Wheatfield Division, after thirty years of service.

Nevia was an original member of the Saint Feliciano Society from Introdacqua, Italy. She was also a longtime active parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church where she attended daily Mass. She also belonged to their Altar and Rosary Society. Following her retirement she became a volunteer at Our Lady of Fatima Shrine member of the 13th of the Month Club there. Nevia took great pride in her vegetable and flower garden. She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, cut work and embroidery. Most of her family and friends have her hand-made afghans and needlework. She also liked cooking, baking and traveling with her husband and friends particularly visits to Hawaii and many trips back to Italy. Nevia enjoyed socializing with friends and spending Wednesday afternoons with her Bingo Club Paesani.

Nevia was predeceased by her brother Duilio Tiberi and sister Italia (late Antonio) Faiella. She is survived by her brother-in-law Dominic (late Maria) Marini of Niagara Falls, NY and a sister-in-law Bambina Ventresca of Columbus, OH. Nevia is also survived by her nephews Ralph Grizanti, Dominic Marini, Jr. and David Marini who looked after Nevia for many years following the death of her husband as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and godchildren. Nevia was also very fond of Donna Harvey who was very good to her. Nevia thought of her as her own daughter.

Visitation will held on Thursday, December 12th from 9 a.m. – 11:15 a.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304. Where funeral services will begin at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary & Joseph Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
