Nicholas Metro, 91, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Sunday February 3, 2013 under the care of Niagara Hospice at Clare Bridge of Niagara in Wheatfield, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of the late John and Assunta (DiPoto) Metro.

Nicholas was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. During WW II, Mr. Metro served in the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1945. On August 30, 1945 he married Lilla T. "Lily" (DiRuscio) in St. Joseph's Church, Niagara Falls, NY. She predeceased him on September 9, 2006. Nicholas worked in the maintenance department for the Niagara Falls Board of Education for 23 years and retired in 1987. He enjoyed time with his family and especially enjoyed cooking pasta and meatballs every Thursday for his grand children.

Mr. Metro is survived by his four children, Nicholas (late Kathy) Metro, Jr. of Niagara Falls, NY; Robert Metro of the Town of Niagara; Richard Metro of Niagara Falls, NY, and Delores A. Hazelton of Williamsville, NY; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank (Josephine) Metro of Niagara Falls, NY and Frederick (late Janet) Metro of Lewiston, NY; one sister, Carmella (Charles) Marinello of Lewiston, NY, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Nicholas was predeceased by one grandson Nicholas Metro III, two brothers, Mariano (Doris of Texas) Metro and Joseph (late Sylvia) Metro; three sisters, Mary (late Sylvester) Scollin, Elizabeth (late Emil) Pasquantino and Wilhemina (late Charles) Valenti.

Visitation will be Thursday 3 – 7 P.M. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Friday, February 8th at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with the Rev. Duane Klizek officiating. Interment with Military Honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport, NY 14094.
