Obituary

Nick L. D'Aloise, 96, formerly of Lewiston and Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on March 16, 2020 at Schoellkopf Health Care Facility in Niagara Falls, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of Roccantonio 'Rocco' and Marietta (D'Alonzo) D'Aloise.

Nick attended St. Joseph's Elementary School and Niagara Falls High School.  Nick proudly served in both the US Army during World War II from 1943 to his honorable discharge in 1946 and in the US Naval Reserves until his honorable discharge in 1953.  He was a part of the third wave of the D-Day Invasion of Infantrymen that landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France on June 6, 1944, and recounted his harrowing experiences in several poems.

On July 27, 1948, he married Theresa (Cornacchia) D'Aloise at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY by Monsignor Tronolone.  They were looking forward to celebrating their 72 nd Wedding Anniversary in 2020.  Nick worked as a Mail Handler for the United States Postal Service at the Main Street Post Office in Niagara Falls, NY for 42 years, retiring in May of 1987.  In addition, he was employed at Delaney & Thorne Pharmacy, as well as a bus driver for Niagara Falls Coach Lines and the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority.  Nick was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church, St. Joseph's Holy Name Society as well as assisting with Catholic Charities.   He was also a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society and LaSalle Sportsmen's Club. Nick was an avid bowler, card player, twelve-gallon American Red Cross Blood Donor and he enjoyed outdoor sports.

In addition to his loving wife, Nick is survived by his children, Sheila (Robert) DiFrancesco, Joel D'Aloise, US Army, LTC Retired, and Shelley (Gerry Wozniak) D'Aloise; his grandchildren, Lauren and Jonathan; a great grand-daughter, Madyson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.  Nick was predeceased by his siblings, Henry D'Aloise, Arthur (late Molly) D'Aloise, Albert (late Aurora) D'Aloise, Guido (late Frances) D'Aloise, John (late Mary) D'Aloise, and his twin sister, Mary (late James) Chipolla.

Visitation will be held from 2 – 4 PM and 6 – 8 PM on Thursday, March 19 at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304.  In compliance with Public Health guidelines, visitation will be monitored to limit gathering sizes based on the most current recommendations.  Private funeral services and entombment with Military Honors at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nick's honor may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY 14301.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
