Paschal "Patsy" J. Giancola, 90, of Grand Island, NY formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away on Friday June 8, 2012 in Kenmore Mercy Hospital. Born in Dunkirk, NY he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Flormo) Giancola.
Patsy came to Niagara Falls, NY as a young child with his family. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Trott Vocational High School. He served in the United States Army Air Force as a Sergeant during World War II, and was awarded an American Theater Campaign Medal, a Good Conduct Medal and a WWII Victory Ribbon. Following the War, Patsy continued to serve in the Army Air Force Reserves and was honorably discharged on November 15, 1952.
On September 15, 1945 Patsy married Eugenia (Evangelist) Giancola and was predeceased by her on December 7, 1978 after thirty three years of marriage. He later married Adeline (Milburn) Giancola on September 23, 1995. Patsy worked in Research and Development Department of Moore Business Forms in Niagara Falls and retired from their Grand Island location following thirty five years of service. During that time he served as a secretary of the Redeform Credit Union.
Patsy was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #247 and longtime member of St. John De LaSalle Church as well as their Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the local Musicians Union and an accomplished trumpeter for over fifty years, having played in local marching bands and with big band orchestras. Patsy was also known to be an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking. One of his favorite pastimes was attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
In addition to his wife of seventeen years, Mr. Giancola is survived by his four children, Rosanne (Patrick) Inserra of Phoenix, AZ; Patricia (Dennis) Sobotka of East Amherst, NY; Gary (Ann) Giancola of Grand Island, NY and Marianne (Patric) Giancola Lewis of Wheatfield, NY; ten grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two brothers, Vince (late Loretta) Giancola of Pennsylvania, Francis (Frances) Giancola of Las Vegas, NV and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also predeceased by one brother Santo (late Dorothy) Giancola.
Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Thursday June 14th at 12:15 p.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. John De LaSalle Church, 8469 Buffalo Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Slawomir Siok, SAC officiating. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. The Knights of Columbus, Council 247 will conduct a service on Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at the funeral chapel.
