Obituary

Pasquale "Patsy" Strangio, 73, of Niagara Falls, NY passed away at his residence on Thursday December 29, 2011, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Plati, Province of Reggio, Calabria, Italy he was the son of the late Francesco and Maria (Carbone) Strangio.

Patsy was educated in Italy and in 1958 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Niagara Falls, NY. On September 27, 1975 he married Marita (Calandrelli) Strangio in Niagara Falls, NY. Pasquale worked as a laborer for the Laborers Local 91 for thirty two years until he retired on August 1, 1998. During that time he did construction work for various contractors and was a well respected leader and held in high regard in all aspects of his jobs including that of a union steward and foreman on many of his job sites. Among the most notable projects Patsy worked on were the Niagara Power Project, Somerset and the shutting off of Niagara Falls. He also worked on various other projects in Niagara County. Prior to that he owned and operated a convenience store in Massena, NY. He also currently owned and maintained properties in the Niagara Falls area.

Patsy was a longtime member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He enjoyed gardening and took great pride in his homemade wine and his family above all things. He was a great provider for his family. His priorities were to make sure everyone was taken care of, protected, kept together and close. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and also weekends with his family on the farm he owned. He passed surrounded with the love and support of his wife, Marita, and his children and family. He will be missed and forever in our hearts.

In addition to his wife, Pasquale is survived by two children Maria (Nathan) Gavacs of Wheatfield, NY and Frank (Sara) Strangio of Niagara Falls, NY; four grandchildren Joseph and Daniel Gavacs and Dominic and Sofia Strangio, his brothers and sisters Andrea (late Rosina) Strangio of Plati, Italy; Caterina (late Pasquale) Musitano of Bari, Italy; Rocco (Michelina) Strangio of Plati, Italy; Rosario (Anna) Strangio, Antonio (Flora) Strangio both of the Town of Niagara; Michael (Elisabetta) Strangio of Lewiston, NY and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins in Italy, the United States and Canada. He was predeceased by two sisters Domenica (late Giuseppe) Catanzariti and Anna (late Rosario) Ielasi and was the son-in-law of the late Fluvio (late Rosaria) Calandrelli.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 3 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday January 2nd at 9:15 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 27th Street and Independence Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane Kilzek, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Parish for Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Entombment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
