Obituary

Paul C. Hogan, Sr., 77, formerly of Niagara Falls, NY died on Sunday January 4, 2009 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Born in Scio, NY he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Hamilton) Hogan.

Paul attended school in Scio, NY and later studied soil conservation at Cornell University Community College and accounting at Niagara County Community College in Sanborn, NY. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant from August 31, 1950 until his honorable discharge on July 17, 1954 and was awarded a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He later served as a Senior Master Sergeant in the 107th Air National Guard, from November 16, 1966 until being honorably discharged on June 11, 1969 and during that time he was activated for the Berlin Crisis and the Pueblo Crisis, While in the service, Paul traveled extensively seeing many countries and most of the United States. On April 26, 1958 he married Rosalie A. (Rizzo) Hogan. He was employed as a systems analyst at the 107th International Guard Air Base in Wheatfield, NY and retired in 1982 after twenty seven years of service.

Paul was a member of the Forest View Church of God in Niagara Falls, NY and was formerly active at Wheatfield Neighborhood Church and Walnut Avenue Christian Church. Skilled at mathematics, he served as a former assistant treasurer for Wheatfield Neighborhood Church and for the 107th National Guard Credit Union and also completed tax returns for various clients. An avid lifelong NY Yankees fan, Paul had a vast knowledge of sports and played baseball, basketball and soccer as well as volunteering as a coach for his church's youth basketball team. Paul was a gentle loving man with a keen sense of humor and deep Faith in God who throughout his illness was an inspiration to his family and friends and extended family at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY. Paul enjoyed being with people and will be remembered as a very loving, devoted husband and father to his very close knit family.

In addition to his wife of fifty years, Mr. Hogan is survived by two children Paul C. (Krista) Hogan, Jr. of Toccoa, GA and Rosemari Hogan of Niagara Falls, NY; three grandchildren Kathryn Courtney Hogan, Zachary Paul Hogan and Andrew Reid Hogan; one sister Gertrude (late Ernie) Cole of Wellsville, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins and was the son-in-law of Mary Rizzo Catania of Wheatfield, NY (late Samuel Rizzo) (late Samuel Cantania) and special loving brother-in-law of John and Lydia Bongiovanni of Niagara Falls, NY. He was predeceased by two sisters and four brothers Ruth (Merle) Thompson, John (late Barbara) Hogan, Richard (Phyllis of Rochester, NY) Hogan, James (late Peggy) Hogan, Harold (late Virginia) Hogan and Margaret (late Sylvester) Perry.

Friends may call on Thursday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS NY. Funeral services will be held on Friday January 9th at 11:00 a.m. in Forest View Church of God, 1250 Saunders Settlement Road, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors. Interment will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston, NY.
