IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pauline "Morley"
Gavin
October 30, 2025
Pauline "Morley" Gavin, age 97, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025 surrounded by family and loved ones. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Chiodo) Morell.
She was affectionately known as "Morley" to her family and friends. Morley had a passion for music, which flourished as a violinist in John Morell's Niagara Falls High School orchestra alongside fellow musician Tommy Tedesco. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1940. She later earned her Associate's degree from Eastman Rochester Dental Dispensary, now part of the University of Rochester Medical Center. On August 30, 1952, Morley married the love of her life, Alfonse "Al" S. Gavin.
She began her career as a switchboard operator at New York Telephone Company in Niagara Falls before dedicating many years as a dental hygienist with Dr. DiLaura and Dr. Chiappone prior to her retirement.
Of all her jobs in life, the one she was most proud of was that of a mother to her four sons. She considered her sons her greatest accomplishment. Throughout her life she expressed a true devotion to the Catholic faith through daily prayer and fidelity to scripture.
Morley is survived by her children, Gerald "Jerry" Gavin, Kenneth "Kenny" Gavin, Dr. David (late RuthAnn, late Joan) Gavin, and John "Jack" (Connie) Gavin; her grandchildren, John Gavin (Carly), Dr. Juliann Gavin, Capt. US Army, and Cheyenne Gavin Buttrey (Cole); and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Al, Morley was predeceased by her siblings, Annette Suttell (late Richard), Connie Jessup (late John), and Louis Morell.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 5 from 10 AM - 11 AM at St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY, where Morley's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Acacia Park Cemetery. Memorial offerings may be made to Our Lady of Fatima Shrine, 1023 Swann Road, Youngstown, NY 14174. Arrangements by M.J.
