Peter D. Carey, 66, of Youngstown, NY, passed away on September 2, 2024 at Our Lady of Peace Health Care Facility in Lewiston, NY.  Born in Niagara Falls, NY, he was the son of the late James J. and Dolores A. (Rotella) Carey.

Peter was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School, and went on to earn his Associate's Degree in Computer Science from Niagara County Community College. On August 10, 1985, he married Janet L. (Sawicki) Carey at the former Our Lady of Lebanon Church.

While in college, Peter was employed with the City of Niagara Falls Street Crew and was a Doorman at Shutter and Boards NightClub. After graduating college he worked at Tandy Radio Shack Computer Department and Barrister Information Systems, which supplied IT Services and installed computer systems for law offices and attorneys. Peter most recently worked for Ingram Micro in Williamsville, NY providing IT support to clients. He retired due to illness.

Peter enjoyed operating his HAM radio and had his amateur radio license (call sign N2MWI). He also enjoyed researching his family tree, coin and stamp collecting, playing cards, tinkering with electronics, and fixing old computers. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. More than anything, he enjoyed Sunday drives and spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife of 39 years, Peter is survived by his children,  Peter D. (Aubrey) Carey II and Melissa L. Carey (Jason Hake); his brother, John J. (Beth) Carey, NFFD Ret., his brother-in-law, Dr. Richard (Anne) Sawicki; his nieces and nephews, Bekah (Matt) McGovern, Micah Carey, NFFD, Nathan Carey, NFFD Trainee, Joshua (Philomena) Carey, NFFD, and Sioban (Coby) Walker; 1 great-niece and 1 great-nephew; his aunts, Anna Mae (late Frank) Rotella and Anne (late Joseph) Diggins, as well as several cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank J. Carey.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9 from 3 – 7 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY 14304.  Peter's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 10 at 10:30 AM at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 218 Hinman Street, Youngstown, NY 14174.  Interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.  If desired, memorial offerings may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, https://www.stjude.org/donate/.  Visit mjcoluccifuneralchapel.com for online condolences.
