Obituary

Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather

Peter W. Gallivan, Sr., 75, of Lewiston, NY passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2013, surrounded by his loving family after a brief illness at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Bath, New Brunswick, Canada, he was the son of the late Wilfred and Madeline (McIsaac) Gallivan.

In the early 1950's Peter's family moved to Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada and in 1956 he graduated from Notre Dame High School in Welland, Ontario. He then attended Niagara University where he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration. In 1960 Pete moved to Rochester, NY and became employed at Price Waterhouse Co. and on September 23, 1961 he married Ann Marie (Colucci) Gallivan at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Niagara Falls, NY. He served in the U.S. Army in the Finance Dept. at Ft. Bragg, NC from November 15, 1961 until his honorable discharge on November 15, 1963. Following his discharge he continued working at Price Waterhouse and Company as an Internal Auditor until moving to Niagara Falls, NY in 1967. He worked for 36 years at Carborundum Co., later known as St. Gobain Corp. and at the time of his retirement he was the plant controller at the Boron Nitride Plant in Amherst, NY. Earlier in his career at Carborundum Co., Pete worked as an auditor throughout various parts of the world.

Pete was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Niagara County Division. He enjoyed building and flying radio controlled model airplanes and was a member and served as a secretary of the Niagara Sunday Fliers R.C. Airplane Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and grandchildren but his greatest pleasure was spending time with all of his family, especially his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of fifty two years, Pete is survived by two children LuAnne (Joseph A.) Luero of the Town of Niagara and Peter W. (Dawn M.) Gallivan, Jr. of Lewiston, NY; four grandchildren Tara and Joseph Burden, Peter and Michael Luero; one sister Elizabeth (late Gerald ) Shank of North Tonawanda, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the
M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Monday, December 16th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Msgr. David LiPuma officiating. Entombment with Military Honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY. If desired memorial offerings may be made to Niagara Hospice 4675 Sunset Drive Lockport, NY 14094.
