Peter Milicia, 89, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Thursday March 5, 2009 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY. Born in San Pier, Niceto Messina, Sicily, Italy. He was the son of the late Pietro and Petronilla (Catanese) Milicia.
Peter was educated in Italy where he also attended trade school for tailoring and barbering. On December 30, 1937, he immigrated to the United States with his brother, Dominic, and settled in Niagara Falls, NY, where he lived until the present time. On September 5, 1949, he married Angeline (Previte) Milicia at St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Pete and his brother operated the former Vanity Cleaners and Tailoring in Niagara Falls until 1980 where he became known to everyone as "Pete the Tailor." He continued to work as a tailor until 2007.
Pete was a longtime active member of St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls, as well as the Holy Name Society. He was a member and served on the Board of Directors of the Portage Niagara Redevelopment Corporation and the East Side Professional Business Association, which honored him with the Businessman of the Year Award in 1974. Pete also belonged to the Niagara Falls Professional Dry Cleaning and Tailoring Association.
In addition to his wife of fifty nine years, Mr. Milicia is survived by three children: Pat (Guy) Rizzuto of Grand Island, NY, Peter T. Milicia of the Town of Niagara, and Sarah (Joe) Szafraniec of Willoughby, OH; eight grandchildren: Karen (Lee) Nejak, Amy (Jason) Marckel, Laura Rizzuto, Kelly (Robert) Bettinger, Stephanie Milicia, Peter B. Milicia, Michael Szafraniec and Stephen Szafraniec, his brother, Dominic (Carmela) Milicia of Niagara Falls, NY, his sister-in-law, Josephine (late Carmen) Morganti of Niagara Falls, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters: Catherine (late Joseph) Pitrone, Rose (late Joseph) Micale and Josephine (Leo) Pollicino of Sicily, Italy.
Friends may call on Saturday from 6 – 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. at the M.J.COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY, where funeral services will begin on Monday March 9th at 11:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 noon at Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph's Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY with Rev. Duane R. Klizek officiating. Entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
