Peter D.
Montante
October 8, 2021
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our beautiful father, Peter David Montante, age 91, on Friday, October 8, 2021 in Niagara Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Peter was born at home on December 30, 1929 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of Sicilian immigrants the late David and Antoinette (Capizzi) Montante.
Peter was a graduate of Trott Vocational High School with a degree in drafting. In 1960, Peter married RoseMarie (Messina) Montante in St. Joseph's Church in Niagara Falls. RoseMarie pre-deceased him in 1993 after 33 years of marriage. Peter worked 14 years as a salesman for the Camellia Linen Supply Company oftentimes reminiscing about how he thought of his customers as his friends. Peter was a 50-year member of Laborer's Local 91, retiring in 1992. Peter was an advocate for safety in the workplace. Peter was a member of the Upper Mountain Fire Company and St. Peter's Church. He volunteered with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed camping trips and community service projects with his sons.
Peter was known for his storytelling and giving sound advice, having 91 years of experiences to share with his family and friends. He was an avid reader, and he loved talking politics, oftentimes making predictions of "what was going to happen next". He loved to travel, he was spontaneous and always ready for the next adventure. Peter was a devoted father and grandfather, always putting family first, and above all Peter enjoyed spending time with his family.
Peter is survived by his four children, David, Peter and Maria Montante, and Bernadette (Michael) Sloma; four grandchildren, Veda and RoseMarie Brillhart and Natalie and Michael Sloma. Peter is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Peter was pre-deceased by four sisters and brother-in-laws, Pauline (Vincenzo) Morreale, Sandra (Jerald) Smedley, Grace (Frederick) Caso and Constance (Joseph) Skrlin.
Per Peter's wishes, a private Mass of Christian Burial and entombment in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY, will be held at the convenience of the family.
