Rachel C. (Castiglione) Foran, 82, of Niagara Falls, NY died on Wednesday April 4, 2012 at Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, NY. Born in Niagara Falls, NY she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Nancy (Guido) Castiglione.

Rachel was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. She attended local schools, graduating from Niagara Falls High School and later from Buffalo State College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. On July 11, 1953 she married "her Irishman," Gregory J. Foran, at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Mr. Foran predeceased her on July 18, 1997. Rachel was employed as an elementary school teacher for the Niagara Falls Board of Education and retired after over thirty years of service. During that time she was responsible for organizing the substitute teachers union. Following her retirement she continued working tutoring students. Rachel was an avid golfer and member of the Hyde Park Ladies Golf Club. She was also a member of the Italian Gourmet Club, a lifelong member of the "Late, Late Club" and a volunteer usher at Art Park in Lewiston. Rachel had a passion for learning, with a special interest in Italian Art History. She also enjoyed playing bocce, and in her younger years ice skating. Rachel was an outstanding cook, especially of Italian specialty foods. But most of all, Rachel adored her grandchildren and centered her life around her entire family.

Mrs. Foran is survived by her three children, Maria Foran of Rochester, NY; David S. (Lori) Foran of Sarasota, FL and Jeanine Foran of Niagara Falls, NY; two grandchildren Kayla Foran and Steven Foran; two brothers Biagio "Ben" (Collie) Castiglione of Niagara Falls, NY and Peter (Eleanor) Castiglione of Lewiston, NY and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the sister-in-law of, William T. (late Donna) Foran, Keith (late Gail) Foran and Bonnie (John) Turgeon all of Sarasota, FL. She was also predeceased by one brother, Joseph (Gloria of Lewiston, NY) Castiglione and one brother-in-law Vincent Foran.

Visitation will be on Friday from 4 – 8 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday April 7th at 9 a.m. followed by a Service of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Peter's Church, 620 Center Street, Lewiston, NY with Rev. Michael Zuffoletto officiating. Interment at the convenience of the family will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.
