IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Remigio Robert
"Remi" Gonzalez
December 7, 2020
Remigio Robert Gonzalez (Remi), 66 of Niagara Falls, NY lost his long fight to cancer on December 7th, 2020. Born in Niagara Falls, NY he was the son of Maria (Martinez) Gonzalez and the late Ignacio Quitano 'Pancho' Gonzalez.
Remi attended local schools graduating from Niagara Falls High School in 1972. In November of 1973, Remi married his high school sweetheart Barbara Maroon. They were happily married for 47 years and together had five beautiful children.
After graduation, Remi found his love for building and construction. He owned and operated Maroons Inc. and later owned and operated Valery Construction both in Niagara Falls. Remi worked for 47 years alongside his close friend Dave Gierach. Remi worked until the day he passed.
In 1980 Remi renewed his faith in God after a trip to Rome, Italy and in audience with Pope John Paul the II and again after seeing Mother Theresa in Washington, DC. These events had a positive and long-lasting effect on his life. Remi belonged to Sacred Heart Church until it closed. He was a Eucharistic minister, youth minister, catholic education teacher, sat on the parish council, was part of the Pro-Life movement and a member of the Sacred Heart men's prayer group. He was a devoted Christian and Catholic. He started every day with a devotion and prayer.
Remi loved his sports. He played racquetball, tennis, volleyball, swimming and most of all loved boxing. He loved to watch football and baseball. His favorite teams were the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and New York Yankees. He also had a strong love of music, especially listening and dancing to mariachis. He loved watching live bands and was the center of attention on the dance floor. Remi also loved to play (and cheat) at cards.
Most of all Remi loved being surrounded by his family. He loved Sunday get togethers and family vacations to Mexico and Georgian Bay every year. He was a loving and caring son, husband, father, Abuelo, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
In addition to his wife and mother, Remi is survived by his children, Michael (Shannon) Gonzalez, Gabriel, N.F.P.D (Aimee) Gonzalez, Raquel (Christopher) Satarian and Noelle (Jimmy Gatto) Gonzalez; his grandchildren, Miquel, Madison, Carmyn, Anthony and Dominic; his siblings, Maria (Luis) Ruvalcaba, Fermina Gonzalez, Savino (Toni) Gonzalez and Anna (late Eladio) Garcia; his nephews Eddie Webster and Eladio Garcia, niece, Maggy Garcia; great nephew Alan and his great niece Emma as well as his close friends, Stan and Sandy. He was predeceased by his son Raphael Gonzalez.
Remi was larger than life. He truly made and impact on every single person he met. He will be missed immensely by many family members and friends.
Although we are deeply saddened by his passing, our hearts find peace knowing you are now in Heaven with our beloved Raphael driving his red 1972 Buick Skylark.
