Obituary

On June 10, 2014 our dad, Ricardo J. Garfalo, Sr. went home to be with the lord and was greeted by the love of his life, Marylou. With heavy hearts, we say goodbye, but we look forward to being together once again in eternity. Born in Niagara Falls, NY Ricardo was the only child to the late Joseph and Julia (Arcuri) Garfalo.

Rick, as he was known to family and friends, was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, NY. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara Falls High School. He later attended trade school to study electrical and sheet metal work. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Navy from July 10, 1955 until his honorable discharge on July 29, 1959 and was awarded several medals including the China Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Medal, Good Conduct Medal and a Navy Occupation Medal. On November 16, 1957 Rick married Marylou (Holka) Garfalo in Niagara Falls, NY. Mrs. Garfalo predeceased him on April 30, 2013.

Rick was employed at Occidental Chemical Corp. in Niagara Falls and retired in 1994 after thirty three years of service. Prior to that he worked at the former Booth and DeMunda Lumberyard and was also self-employed as an upholsterer at his residence. Ricardo was a member of the Cristoforo Colombo Society and the Occidental Chemical Co. Retirement Club both in Niagara Falls, NY. In his leisure time he enjoyed going to the Casino, completing crossword puzzles, woodworking and watching the Wheel of Fortune. He also had a love for animals especially his cat Smokey.

Mr. Garfalo is survived by four children Anthony M. (Rose) Garfalo, Therese R. (Darrel) Kashishian both of Niagara Falls, NY; Ricardo J. (Susan) Garfalo, Jr. of Williamsville, NY and Venessa (Mark) Sanchez of Niagara Falls, NY; fifteen grandchildren Nadina, Joseph and Marrisa Garfalo; Shannon and Danielle Doyle; Laura, Amy and Brian Kashishian; Ricardo Garfalo, III; Ian and Reed Corbett; Mark, Jr., Matthew, Justin and Christine Sanchez; six great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Thursday, June 12th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY. Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Friday, June 13th at 10:30 a.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, 624 Hyde Park Boulevard, Niagara Falls, NY with Pastor Rob Scott officiating. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with military honors. Memorial donations may be made to Niagara County SPCA, 2100 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
