Richard F. "Dick" Marasco, Sr., 84 of Niagara Falls, NY, went home to be with the Lord on October 12, 0013 under the care of Niagara Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Born in Johnsonburg, PA he was the son of the late Eleutario "Harry" and Mary Ann (Lancianese) Marasco.
Richard attended Holy Rosary School in Johnsonburg, PA and graduated from Johnsonburg High School where he excelled in sports especially football. While attending high school, he also worked on the B & O Railroad. In 1951 he came to Niagara Falls with his parents to join his brothers who had previously moved to the area. During the Korean War Richard served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Camp Rucker, AL where he ran a Mess Hall as a head cook. On September 6, 1958 he married Irene F. (Baldassarre) Marasco at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Irene predeceased him on January 10, 2003. During the 1950's Dick worked at Hooker Chemical Company. He also worked as a butcher at Marasco's Complete Foods located on 19th Street in Niagara Falls, a business he owned and operated with his brothers. During the 1960's and 1970's he was a meat wholesale salesman for various area meat brokers including Hunter Packing, Krey Packing and Gummins, Inc. in Buffalo, NY.
Dick was a member and past commander of the Catholic War Vets Post 925. He was also a longtime faithful parishioner of St. Joseph Church as well as their Usher Club. In 2006 he was the recipient of the "Cittadini Speciali" (Special Citizen) Award given by the Pine Avenue Business Association. Dick won full scholarships to Bucknell and Duquense Universities and played semi pro football for the Johnsonburg Shamrocks and later fast pitch softball for Hooker Chemical Co. He also enjoyed playing bocce. Dick liked to hunt and fish at his camp in the Southern Tier with his family and friends. He was also an excellent cook, but most important to Richard was spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by one son Robert J. (late Sandra A.) Marasco of the Town of Niagara and was predeceased by two children Richard F. Marasco, Jr. and Rosemary (Albert of Wilson, NY) Giovannucci. He is also survived by three grandchildren Adam R. Marasco, Sarah E. Ginter (Daniel Muth) and Scott Joseph Ginter; one great grandchild Santino, one sister-in-law Gloria J. (Carl) Albion and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by two brothers Salvatore P. (Frances of Niagara Falls, NY) Marasco, Sr., John H. (late Theresa) Marasco and one sister Geraldine V. (late Harold) Bailor.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 6 – 9 p.m. and Friday from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 MILITARY ROAD, NIAGARA FALLS, NY where funeral services will begin on Saturday October 19th at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY with Military Honors.
